What has caused the increase in the price of almonds?

I went to Trader Joes the other day and noticed a pound of unslted almonds costing .00 a pound. Does this have anything to do with the increased demand due to the claimed health benefits?

It started last year with all the hurricanes and some crops were damaged. The prices are very high for almonds now!

Two of the best (healthiest foods) a person can eat are Walnuts and Almonds.
Neither one can be shelled by a machine and taking those two factors into account, there is your high cost!
